Portland is home to four colleges and universities that offer foreign language degree programs. Lewis and Clark College offers programs in foreign languages, French, German and Spanish. Portland State University offers degree programs in Chinese, foreign languages, French, German, Japanese, linguistics, Russian, Spanish and teaching English as a second language.
Future employment projections are strong for the Portland area. The overall employment rate is projected to increase by 14% through the year 2012. Employment opportunities for bilingual and foreign language educators are expected to increase by 9% during this time period. Jobs for interpreters and translators are projected to increase by 16%.
