Business students have a wide variety of area universities to choose from. Portland State University's School of Business Administration is the largest business school in the Pacific Northwest, with 400 graduate and 3,000 undergraduate students studying business each year. The business school also sponsors the largest business mentor program in the Pacific Northwest, with more than 100 Portland-area business professionals participating. The University of Portland offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in financial planning, accounting, finance, global business, and marketing/ management. This private university also has an E-scholars program, which matches students with an entrepreneurial mentor and provides the opportunity for domestic and international travel to meet with business leaders and practice global business. There is also the University of Portland Center for Entrepreneurship, an organization that helps students develop entrepreneurial skills by connecting the university and the business community. Other schools with business programs include private colleges Cascade College, Concordia University, Marylhurst University, and Warner Pacific College, Portland Community College; and career schools DeVry UniversityHeald CollegeITT Technical Institute and Everest College.
The employment outlook is positive for those in the business field in the Portland area, recently named to Inc.com's list of top five city's for Most Balanced Economy and Growth. Currently, more than 48,600 people are employed in financial activities, with the total expected to reach 55,200 by 2014. And more than 91,100 people are employed in professional and business services, with that total expected to reach nearly 118,000 by 2014, according to data from the Oregon Employment Department.
